Digital Audio: In/Out Learning much about all the new audio formats since I bought my iPod. Back in the day there were two, mp3 and wav (and of course midi, but that really doesn't count). Now there's aac, ogg, flac, ape, mpc, m4a, aiff, ram, vox — just to name a few. The problem, as with everything else Mac makes, is iPod only accepts a select few of these, so the rest have to be converted to be iPod friendly. So, I get a flac (free lossless audio codec) and have to dumb-down the qualtiy to play it on my (ahem) expensive portable high quality audio player. How much sense does that make? This is, however, in keeping with Mac's overall philosophy: don't let the user decide, dictate what's best for them.
